The reduction of the universe to a single being.

LA is a huge mess. Still, it's a city that, at night from a distant hill, somehow manages to look magnificently like the sky full of stars. Somewhere in that huge mess, a guy called Hunter John might have laid in his bedroom, imagining himself to a place far away up there. At least, that's what his song I feels like. And indeed, as his musical influences he credibly states that his music sounds like "all the lights at the bottom of the ocean, and all the lights at the top of the sky", though for sure that's a bit of a cheesy description. Nonetheless, his recording moniker Universe appears appropriate to me given the dreamy and spaced-out lo-fi melodies Hunter creates with supposedly analogue synths and a very basic drum machine which evokes fine associations 80s easy listening records, while singing about the possibility of being alright these days.

I is the first single of his forthcoming album Gazing, Gazing, according to Hunter to be released sometime this summer.
