On Hiding.

So this is something,
Never to be anymore.

Wellington's Matthew Holleman does not make music for the particularly light-hearted; but who is, after all. On Hiding, his new album which is sold exclusively via the artist's bandcamp, is among the most melancholic ones I've come across this year. Matt's songs express anxiety and fear and at times hopelessness, but at the same time the cathartic nature of the record, which "articulates an uncertain few years", never gets buried. With sparse instrumentation and vocals reminiscent of Justin Vernon's acclaimed works, On Hiding is an outstanding effort by an extraordinarily talented songwriter.

I'm still holding,
Wait till morning.
